Yamaha is set to launch the MT-15 on March 15. We’ve already seen leaked images of the India-spec bike, but now Yamaha has released the official teaser video on its social media handles. Titled ‘Dark Side Of Japan’, the video is packed with Samurai motifs in a bid to remind viewers of Yamaha’s roots. Yamaha has used a similar marketing campaign in the past as well. Then, it was for the MT-09 naked streetfighter.
Back to the new video, it shows the 150cc naked sporting a blue paint job. Coincidentally, it is the same colour as the one seen on the bike that was spotted at a dealership a couple of days ago. The India-spec model features a couple of changes compared to the one sold in other markets. For starters, it gets black alloy wheels instead of the fluorescent units seen on the Thai-spec model. The bike bound for India also features chunky metal grab rails that are absent on the international version.
The MT-15 is powered by a 155cc, liquid-cooled motor which puts out 19.3PS of power at 10,000 and 14.7Nm of max torque at 8,500rpm. This is the same powerplant that we have seen on the R15 V3.0. Even the frame, brakes and the suspension are the same as the ones on the R15 V3.0. However, the naked street bike will feature conventional telescopic forks and a box-type swingarm instead of USD forks and a cast aluminium swingarm. And as an added safety net, the bike will be equipped with dual-channel ABS as standard.
There’s still no word about the price, but we expect the MT-15 to cost around Rs 1.2 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price, the only direct rival that the MT-15 has is the KTM 125 Duke. Yamaha will launch the MT-15 on March 15. So stay tuned to BikeDekho for more updates.
