A closer look at the Japanese bikemaker’s first EV that’s headed to India next year
Earlier this week, we broke the news that the Yamaha Neo’s is heading to India next year. This will be the first EV from the Japanese manufacturer in our market. Here’s an up close look at the upcoming EV:
The Yamaha Neo’s is the Japanese manufacturer’s take on urban mobility. This e-scooter is quite compact, and features a futuristic design with LED illumination all around. Yamaha hasn’t introduced an array of colours for the Neo’s and only comes in black and white colours.
The Yamaha Neo’s features twin LED headlights with square-ish LED DRLs. Its LED indicators are mounted near the handlebar giving the front apron a clean look.

Yamaha has equipped the Neo’s with a compact LCD instrument console that displays all the basic information. However, it gets Bluetooth connectivity via the Yamaha MyRide application. Though you can receive call/sms alerts, there’s no navigation functionality.
The Yamaha Neo’s is powered by a 2.3kWh hub motor that produces 2.06kW in STD mode, and dials down the power to 1.58kW in Eco mode. The top speed is rated at 40kmph (STD mode) and 35kmph (Eco mode).
The Neo’s e-scooter comes with a 50V 19.2Ah removable lithium-ion battery. It has a claimed range of 38.5km (Eco mode) and with a second battery, you can extend it up to a claimed range of 68km.
In spite of the batteries being located under the seat, the Neo’s flaunts a big 27-litre storage capacity.
The Yamaha Neo’s comes with a telescopic fork that has 90mm of wheel travel and a monoshock with 80mm travel. Braking duties are entrusted to a disc up front and a drum unit at the rear.
The Yamaha Neo’s retails for an equivalent of Rs 2.98 lakh in Europe, and we expect it to be priced around Rs 2.50 lakh in our market. Do you think that price tag is justified for the equipment on offer? Let us know in the comments.
