After a huge suspense, clear images of the most awaited quarter-litre motorcycle- R25 are leaked. The bike looks quite different from the YZF-R15 and seems based on the YZF-R1. It gets Yamaha's conventional split styled headlamp on its new full size fairing and other parts including the fuel tank and rear panels have also been redesigned.
Yamaha R25 production model doesn't resemble the concept model, showcased at the Auto Expo 2014. However, some elements including wheels, handlebars, suspensions and disc brakes remains unchanged. The bike is expected to be propelled by a 249cc, liquid cooled, parallel-twin engine mated with a six-speed transmission. Using electronic fuel injection, the bike might churn out around 28-30bhp of maximum power.
Yamaha has used a single exhaust pipe for both the engine cylinders, which looks quite decent and the cast aluminium swing-arm has been borrowed from its younger sibling- R15. The bike is expected to be launched soon now in all the important markets including India as well. The company might keep the price range maintained under Rs. 2 lakh in India. The bike will surely increase the competition in the 250cc segment and compete with the likes of Honda CBR250R, KTM Duke 390 and Suzuki Inazuma 250, while the upcoming rivals will be KTM RC 390, Bajaj Pulsar SS400 and Hero MotoCorp HX250R.
