Yamaha Ray all set to make a grand entry in the Indian scooter segment

India Yamaha Motor is all set to venture into the scooter segment with its brand new scooter Ray, which the company is planning to launch on September 14, 2012. The company has opened bookings for the Yamaha Ray and has already received an overwhelming response. The company is expecting 2 months pre-booking by the time of launch. With the addition of the scooter Yamaha Ray in its portfolio, India Yamaha motor is looking at an overall market share of 10% with 15% share coming from the scooter segment by 2016. The Ray, which is targeted at young urban women and college goers, has signed noted Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, as the brand ambassador for this stylish, trendy yet sturdy and dependable scooter for young women. The company shall also launch an innovative campaign featuring the Bollywood diva.
Yamaha has also devised and launched multiple promotional activities to create excitement and interest for the new scooter. As a part of its promotion for Yamaha Ray, the company has given a chance to potential customers through the ‘Yamaha Ray – Guess and Win’ contest, to ride away a brand new RAY just by guessing the exact ex showroom price of the scooter in their respective states. The winners shall also get a chance to meet Deepika Padukone. Further, all advanced bookings will get assured gifts and 1000 lucky bookings will get Yamaha merchandise. The contest is open till 13th September, 2012. To take part in the campaign, one can log on to the company’s booking website. Yamaha is extensively strengthening its dealership network across India and especially in the tier II and tier III cities as a part of its marketing strategy for RAY.
Yamaha’s decision to enter the scooter segment in India was arrived at by seeing the huge demand that this segment is witnessing in India, with college students and young working women showing increased affinity to purchasing light weight and highly efficient scooters. Yamaha, which is known for its smart engineering and packaging of products, is all set to offer to its customers a feature packed, stylish, peppy and much awaited Ray. Yamaha made its initial foray into India in 1985. In August 2001, Yamaha India became a 100% subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd, Japan (YMC). In 2008, Mitsui & Co., Ltd. entered into an agreement with YMC to become a joint-investor in the motorcycle manufacturing company "India Yamaha Motor Private Limited (IYM)".
IYM operates from its state-of-the-art manufacturing units at Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh & Faridabad in Haryana and produces motorcycles both for domestic & export markets. With a strong workforce of more than 2,000 employees, IYM is highly customer-driven and has a countrywide network of over 400 dealers. Presently, its product portfolio includes VMAX (1,679cc), MT01 (1,670cc), YZF-R1 (998cc), FZ1 (998cc), Fazer (153cc), FZ-S (153cc), FZ (153cc), SZ, SZ-X & SZ-R (153cc), YZF-R15 Version 2.0 (150cc), SS125 (123cc), YBR 125 (123cc), YBR 110 (106cc) and Crux (106cc).
