Yamaha failed to update the 150cc motorcycle with ABS before the April 1 deadline
- The SZ-RR was performing quite poorly in terms of sales over the last few months.
- Earlier this month, Yamaha had discontinued the YZF-R15S and Fazer 150 as well.
- Last month, Yamaha revealed the prices of all its models equipped with either ABS or CBS.
With new safety norms coming into place in April this year, some motorcycles that didn’t meet the new regulations were bound to face the axe. After discontinuing the YZF-R15S and Fazer 150 for the same reason, Yamaha has now pulled the plug on the SZ-RR.
The SZ-RR has been performing quite poorly in terms of sales over the past several months. In fact, the Japanese manufacturer sold just 280 units in the month of May and the month after that, it sold zero units! So it isn’t surprising that Yamaha has decided to discontinue the motorcycle.
Yamaha had first launched the SZ-X in India in 2010, but at that time, it received a lukewarm response from two-wheeler buyers. In a bid to lure more customers, Yamaha had launched a refreshed version of the standard variant called the SZ-RR Version 2.0 which featured a few cosmetic updates. Just last month, Yamaha had revealed the prices of all its models equipped with either CBS or ABS, but the SZ-RR was not part of the list.
