Yamaha India has always been known as a brand that has been triggered performance motorcycles. But now they want to get their hands in the mass production sector and focus on “the bottom of pyramid”. This is the same brand that had produced Yamaha bikes like the RD350 and RX100. These bikes were what the country wanted at the time. Everyone desired a  high performance bike and they got the same with the RD and RX. Even in the year 1998, when company’s like Bajaj and Hero MotoCorp introduced 100 cc four stroke bikes at just 7-8 Bhp, Yamaha was harboring a 108 kilo kerb bike generating 11 bhp power.

The brand has introduced commuter bikes like Crux 110, the Crux-R, the Libero, the G5 and most recently, the Yamaha YBR110, none of which has set the market on fire. The company has always been known for giving its bike a sportier look. It was R15 that was introduced in the market some 4 years ago that created a storm in the market and changed the bike manufacturing world. The bike was an instant hit  among the youth and it wasn’t long before the whole world grabbed on to the concept and started working on the similar lines. FZ16 is a similar story and was also a runaway success that gave Yamaha the edge over the others.

Commuter bikes were never a forte for the company and when a brand known more for power and look suddenly jumps into the mass production segment, the news is bound to turn heads. The company is planning to release a bike under the range of Rs.30000, which should be Rs.28000 to be exact. So will the company pull off the “Tata Nano of the bike manufacturing world” move. If they do, the vehicle would be the cheapest bike in the world and India would be its exporting Hub.
