Synonymous with motorcycle manufacturing, Yamaha is now to delve new segments of the two-wheeler market in India. Yamaha has some enticing range of scooters lined up to be showcased for the 2012 Auto Expo.  A wide range of scooters from 50 cc to 500 cc will be offered by Yamaha to build their fan base in the country in the scooter segment as well. However, it is the 100-125 cc scooters meant for India to compete with the veteran Honda Activa in the country. The new scooter from Yamaha will be soon seen plying on the roads basically gearing up for the upcoming competition in form of Piaggio Vespa LX125. Yamaha has a 500 cc T-Max maxi scooter highest among the range and the 50 cc Zuma in the low capacity range for the global launch. The Japanese manufacturer has Yamaha BWs 125 Scooter and Yamaha Fino 115 cc scooters also slated for the launch in 2012.

While the top scooter manufacturers like Bajaj Auto and Kinetic Motors have veered from their expertise in dying segment of scooter manufacturing, Yamaha has decided to revive the segment back with the introduction of new range of scooters. The importance of high fuel economy among the other things has diverted the attention of the scooter fans to motorcycles. The disgrace of the scooters has been saved to some extent by the popular car and two-wheeler manufacturer Honda Motors. The Honda Activa has created nothing short of a revolution in the scooter segment with its metallic frame for extended safety and  102 cc four stroke engine for easy pick up and stunning push button start to bring the innovativeness in the kick-start segment. However, the sequel of Honda Activa, the Aviator has not been able to make quite an impression in the scooter segment, for its high price and the unisex driveability has made a negative impact in the market. Designed basically for men, keeping the option open for women riders in the margin, Honda Motors failed to deliver the punch it had intended.
