Yamaha to set up assembly line for scooters

India Yamaha has confirmed again its decision of launching scooters in India by 2012. Now it provides another insight of the story; it is going to set up a separate an assembly line at its existing Surajpur plant in UP. The company will invest around Rs. 10 crore to set up the assembly line. Apart from that it may also introduce electric bike in the market.
India Yamaha Motor, 100 per cent subsidiary of Japan based Yamaha is eyeing total sales of 5 lakh units of two wheelers in Indian market in the year of 2011. It is also reported to launch India- specific scooters in the domestic market. The company is doing well in bike segment and now it is ready to give answer to Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Suzuki and Mahindra which are major scooter providers in Indian market.
To bring new scooter in India, Yamaha is planning to invest Rs 10 crore to set up a separate body assembly unit at its Surajpur manufacturing plant in Uttar Pradesh. The Yamaha Scooter would be launched by the year of 2012, as per India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd CEO and Managing Director Hiroyuki Suzuki. The upcoming scooters will be loaded with Stylish appearance, Smart design and commuter segment engine, he added.
Hiroyuki Suzuki, Managing Director of India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd CEO was the head of Yamaha Indonesia and he had worked in that market. Yamaha has around 46 per cent market share in Indonesian scooter market which is almost same as Honda Activa in Indian market. The upcoming scooters would be altogether different form Honda Activa and others. It is expected to launch Yamaha Fino, Yamaha BWS, Yamaha Neo, Yamaha Spark, etc. scooters in India.
Presently Indian scooter market is increasing with 50.54 per cent growth and stood at 19.6 lakh units. Other major tow-wheeler companies like TVS, Piaggio Vespa etc. are also attracted to it and announced to launch their scooters in India.
India Yamaha Motor is doing well in bike segment and providing reliable and well performer bikes in India. The company has commuter to superbike segment bikes in the domestic market and its some popular bikes in India are Yamaha YBR 110, Yamaha 125, Yamaha SZ, Yamaha FZs, Yamaha FZ 1 and Yamaha VMAX is its top end bike which has 1700cc power machine.
