The new 300cc maxi scooter will make its debut at the 2016 EICMA motorcycle show next month

While the Indian scooter market is stagnant with almost identical looking 110cc and 125cc machines (barring the Aprilia SR150), that isn’t the case in Europe. Scooters are the preferred mode of transport for most of the urban users and they have an exciting range of maxi scooters to make their commute an intriguing affair. The latest entrant in this scooter space is the new Yamaha X-MAX 300 which will replace the X-MAX 250. The new Yamaha X-MAX 300 will make its debut at the 2016 EICMA motorcycle show in Italy next month. The basic silhouette of the new scooter is similar to the Yamaha N-MAX, that was showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo. But the Yamaha X-MAX 300 gets an aggressive front apron with twin LED headlights, a large windscreen and a chiselled mudguard.

The Yamaha X-MAX scores highly with respect to practicality as the under seat storage is gargantuan enough to hold two full face helmets and it also gets a power socket. The new scooter also gets equipped with keyless entry and a traction control system to safeguard the rider in tricky riding conditions. The instrument cluster is a semi-digital unit with a screen in the centre displaying fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter, engine temperature etc. Engine details haven’t been revealed but we know for a fact that the liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor is now Euro 4 emission norm compliant.

The frame of the scooter has been completely redesigned and it is now suspended on telescopic front forks and twin rear shocks. The Yamaha X-MAX 300 rides on a massive 15-inch wheel at front and a 14-inch wheel at the back. Braking duties are handled by disc brakes on both ends, while ABS is a standard fitment. The new scooter will go on sale by March, 2017 in Europe, while we can hope and wish that Yamaha gets the N-MAX scooter to India.
