The BW’S 125 is based on the same engine platform as the Yamaha NMax 125
- It features rugged bodywork with protective guards.
- Option to fit panniers thanks to pannier stays.
- Comes with an upswept exhaust, dual-purpose tyres, and a raised front fender.
The folks at Yamaha aren’t holding back from going a little crazy with their designs. A couple of weeks ago, it unveiled an odd-looking almost minion like Yamaha Vinoora. Read about it here. And now it’s dipping its toes into the small-capacity adventure scooter segment with the Yamaha BW’S 125. Think Yamaha Ray-ZR 125, but a bit more hardcore!
The design comprises rugged body panels protected by metal guards. The headlight looks like it’s inspired by the 2004 BMW R 1200 GS, but has been smartly designed to accommodate what looks like a luggage rack on top of it. It gets a raised fender up front along with an upswept exhaust for better water wading capabilities. Pair this setup with a pair of dual-purpose tyres and you have a scooter that could take on the trails without fuss. Interestingly, Yamaha offers the BW’S 125 with pannier stays which means you could easily slap on a pair of soft or hard panniers and hit the long winding roads.
While details are scarce, we know the BW’S 125 shares its VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) engine and chassis with the NMax 125. This means you’re looking at a weight of around 127kg and a power output of approximately 12PS and 11.7Nm. From the looks of it, the fuel tank is placed behind the front apron which should make refuelling a lot easier.
The instrument console seems to be a digital unit which should give you basic readouts such as two trip metres, odo, time etc. In terms of hardware, the front consists of a telescopic fork while the rear gets twin shock absorbers, both of which seem to have a decent amount of travel. Braking duties are handled by a 245mm disc up front and a 230mm disc at the rear.
All said and done, the Yamaha BW’S 125 is unlikely to make it to India. It’s currently only available in Taiwan and Canada.
