Gogoro Commences Operations In Delhi NCR
Gogoro announced its India debut last year in partnership with Zypp Electric, a last mile delivery company. Gogoro is a Taiwan-based EV battery-swapping technology leader that’s hoping to soon expand into India with battery-swapping stations and e-scooters. To open its innings, it has initiated its plot program in the Delhi-NCR region with 90 scooters and six battery swapping stations.
The objective of this pilot program is simple. Over the course of the next six months 90 Gogoro 2 Series e-scooters have been assigned to Zypp Electric. Furthermore, Gogoro has set up six battery swapping stations in total with a six-second swap promise: four in Gurugram and two in Delhi. Gogoro will examine operational data pertaining to battery usage, swapping patterns, rider behaviour, and asset utilisation (how the e-scooters and the swap stations are used).
This data will be useful for Gogoro to localise its future products for the Indian market. It will also aid in product design and allow Gogoro to provide performance for battery packs that are specifically tailored to the needs of Indian riders. It intends to apply these lessons to its locally produced goods, which are expected to be released in mid-2023. However, Gogoro has made it clear that it will look at a phase wise expansion in India with a focus on just 5-6 cities in the next two years. This programme comes almost a month after Gogoro’s partnership with Zomato, offering e-scooters to their delivery personnel.
If Gogoro’s six-second battery swap technology can be successfully adopted in India, it will truly propel India’s EV revolution to the next stage as it addresses one of the challenges faced by electric vehicles today - long charging times. Then owning and operating an e-scooter will be as seamless as any petrol powered scooter.
