The new Dominar 400 is currently the most-exciting bike under the Rs 2-lakh bike segment. Here are 5 new things it brings to the Power Cruiser party.
The Dominar 400 has been one of the most anticipated bikes of 2016 and there is good reason for that. Bajaj has always been know to bring affordable performance to the masses and the Dominar 400 is the company’s most powerful bike to date. Along with performance, the Dominar 400 brings forth a host of new features to the power cruiser segment that it will be positioned in with the Mahindra Mojo being its closest rival. We have compiled a list of 5 new features it brings to the table.
All-LED headlights –
The Dominar is one of the best looking bikes from Bajaj and also the bikemaker’s first model to come equipped with a full-LED headlamp. The incorporation is very well sculpted and gives the bike a distinctive look. There is a large high beam lamp flanked on both sides by four (two on each side) low beam lamps with two DRL’s or pilot lights positioned on top of the setup. This gives the bike a futuristic look and should offer excellent illumination during night time. Now this feature is not available in any bike below the Rs 8 lakh range and will come in the Rs 2 lakh segment next year when the new 20117 KTM Duke 390 is launched. It is worth mentioning that the Dominar 400 also gets the auto headlamp on feature similar to Superbikes.
ABS –
The bike comes equipped with a dual channel ABS and that too at a shocking price of just Re 1.5lakhs. There is also a non-ABS model in the lineup. The Mojo and even the Yamaha YZF- R3 is yet to get an ABS variant. This is a good move by Bajaj as ABS on performance bikes are necessary given our road conditions.
Full digital two step instrumentation –
The Dominar 400 offers a full digital LCD screen and a secondary screen similar to the Ducati Diavel’s layout - one mounted on the handlebar and one on the fuel tank. The instrument panel is backlit in white and includes a gear shift indicator, fuel level, top speed, side stand sensors and much more.
Power output-
The Dominar 400 is the first bike in the Power Cruiser segment to push the power stakes to 35PS. It has the same 373cc motor from KTM Duke 390 though it has been tuned to make 35PS at 8000rpm and 35Nm of torque at 6500rpm. It will be a triple spark fuel injection unit. It has a torquey bottom end relaxed motor designed for cruising unlike the frantic and high revving Duke 390.
Slipper clutch-
The Dominar 400 is the only bike in its segment to get a slipper clutch. This addition will allow for smoother transitions between gear shifts at huge revs especially preventing wheel lockup when downshifting rapidly from high speeds and will serve as an important safety feature on the bike.
