2016 Auto Expo: Unexpected Bike Launches

Indian Motorcycle Chief Classic

The media days saw a lot of launches and showcases at the Auto Expo. Automakers from around the world arrived with their latest offerings and also launched some in the Indian market. Out of those launches, some models were bound to come in India but some unexpected launches took place including the two motorcycles from Indian Motorcycles and the surprise launch of Yamaha MT-09 on February 4. Here are the unexpected launches that took place during media days at the Expo.

UM Motorcycles Renegade Classic 

UM Motorcycles Renegade Classic

Before the Expo, there was some information about the launch of two models of the Renegade range in India, Sport S and Commando. Along with these two bikes, the company also launched Renegade Classic priced at Rs. 1.69 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi). This motorcycle by UM Motorcycles seems to suggest that the American company is gunning to carve a piece out of Royal Enfield’s customer base. Read More

Yamaha MT-09

Yamaha MT-09

Yamaha’s press conference took place on February 3 and the company launched Ray-ZR. There was no information about the launch of MT-09 on day 1 but the motorcycle was a surprise launch on media day 2, when the famous movie star and Yamaha’s brand ambassador, John Abraham came and launched MT-09. The 850cc naked motorcycle was launched at Rs.10.2 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be brought to the country as a CBU. It will be available in two colour options namely - Matte Black and Race Blue, and will compete against Kawasaki Z800, Triumph Street Triple and Benelli TNT 899. Read More 

Indian Motorcycle Roadmaster and Chief Classic

Indian Motorcycle Roadmaster

These two launches by Indian Motorcycle turned out to be a big surprise as the company was not expected to offer more products in the country. The 2016 version of Indian Roadmaster is a motorcycle that defines absolute comfort in long-distance touring. It was launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 38 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi). Indian Chief Classic was also launched at a price of Rs. 24 lac (ex-showroom, Delhi). Both bikes are powered by a 1,811cc, Thunder Stroke 111, V-twin engine. Read More
