Yamaha Motors India is all set to introduce a naked version of YZF-R3 called as MT-03 at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo, but, just before this, a news that is making rounds on the internet is that the manufacturer might unveil its 850cc machine in the Auto Expo named as MT-09. Though the company has not announced any details for the launch of Yamaha MT-09 yet but it is expected to be available in the market by the end of the year 2016. Still, there is a mystery whether this machine will be assembled locally or will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). If the bike is priced at between Rs. 9.5 to 10 lac than it will lock horns with Kawasaki Z800, Triumph Street Triple and Benelli TNT 899.
Yamaha MT-09 is a streetfighter bike that is built on a compact die-cast aluminium frame. The bike is expected to be equipped with keenly crafted fuel tank, raised handlebars and rear-set footpegs. All of these elements would be offering upright riding stance and will also make it a convenient machine for commuting purpose as well as for cornering. The bike will also be fitted with fully-digital LCD instrument cluster, narrowed aluminium handlebar and a brake pedal, footpegs and forged aluminium shifters. It will also borrow some styling cues from its younger sibling Yamaha MT-07.
This streetfighter is expected to be propelled by an 847cc, 3-Cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valves engine that will be mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. The mill will produce a maximum power of 113.42bhp at 10000 rpm and 87.5Nm of torque at 8500 rpm. The braking duties will be taken care of by 298mm Hydraulic dual disc brake at the front and 245mm Hydraulic single disc brake at the rear. The suspension system of the bike will employ telescopic forks up front and swingarm assisted mono shock absorbers at the rear. It is also speculated to come with traction control system with two distinct riding modes and Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) as an option.
