Suzuki’s upcoming entry-level naked borrows features from its faired sibling and looks sportier than before

  • Features a re-designed headlamp which is now LED-lit.
  • Mechanicals will be the same as its newly launched faired sibling, the 2019 Gixxer SF.
  • Might carry a premium of around Rs 10,000 over the outgoing model.
  • Is likely to come with a fuel-injected engine.

After launching the updated Suzuki Gixxer SF recently, the bike maker was bound to launch its naked twin, the Gixxer. And now, weeks prior to its official launch, the brochure of the motorcycle has leaked online giving us a clear picture of what the new Gixxer will look like.

Starting with the design, the 2019 Gixxer appears to sport a more muscular look, with a bulky fuel tank, engine shroud and alloy wheels shod with wider profile tyres. However, the biggest visual changes appear to come in the form of a re-designed headlamp and split seats.

Feature-wise, the 2019 Gixxer now gets LED head and tail lamps, along with a re-designed, fully digital instrument cluster, same as the one seen on its faired cousin. The brochure also reveals that the naked motorcycle will be offered in two colour options - black and grey. Will Suzuki also offer its MotoGP colours with this bike? Well, if the livery is introduced on the SF, we could definitely expect it to be carried over to the naked too.

Powering the motorcycle is the same engine as the 2019 Gixxer SF. However, this 154.9cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine will now get fuel injection. The old-gen model came equipped with a carb, but since this new naked will have to meet upcoming emission norms, fuel injection is necessary. On the SF, this motor now makes 14.1PS of power, which is 0.7PS less compared to the outgoing model. That said, the torque figure remains unchanged at 14Nm. We expect this motor to be BS6-ready.

Underpinnings here will likely consist of a telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock unit at the back, while braking duties are expected to be handled by disc brakes on both ends. Suzuki is likely to launch the 2019 Gixxer by the end of July. It is expected to command a price tag of about Rs 98,000 (ex-showroom), making it Rs 11,000 more affordable than its faired sibling. Once launched, it’ll compete against the 2019 FZ-S, Bajaj Pulsar NS 160, Honda CB Hornet and the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.
