Two of India’s most affordable full-faired motorcycles go head-to-head, at least on paper
Having launched the 2019 iteration of the Gixxer SF, Suzuki has lost the title of having India’s most affordable full-faired motorcycle to the Hero Xtreme 200S. But has the little Gixxer SF lost anything more than the title? Here’s how they stack up on paper.

Seems like a no-brainer, doesn’t it? The Hero does have the Gixxer SF covered on the performance front. The larger engine helps the Hero produces 4.3PS and 3.1Nm more than the Suzuki. Both motors are known to have good mid-range punch, but we have no doubt that the Xtreme might just prove to be a bit too extreme for the Gixxer to handle. However, the Suzuki, which is now only available with a fuel injected motor, redeems itself by being the only BS6- ready motorcycle of the two. But Hero has confirmed that it will be shifting to fuel-injection prior to the 1 April 2020 deadline.

Both the Gixxer as well as the Xtreme have near identical components. Hence, it is hard to justify one over the other just by looking at the spec sheet. However, each bike has some interesting facts about their components. The new Gixxer SF gets the same chassis as the larger Gixxer 250. This has pushed the weight up by a fair margin, 6kg to be precise. The Xtreme 200S gets the same components as its naked sibling, the Xtreme 200R.

The Xtreme 200S is definitely the larger motorcycle of the two. But where it really matters, the new Gixxer is not that different. Both have identical ground clearance and saddle height figures. The half a litre of fuel that the Xtreme is capable of carrying is not going to affect its range by much. And the 3mm longer wheelbase of the Gixxer is not going to affect cornering stability a lot either. What might tip the scales in the Gixxer’s favour is that despite it bulking up, it is still lighter than the Xtreme 200S by 3kg. But will it be noticeable in real-world riding conditions? We'll reserve our judgement for a proper comparison test.

While it cannot compete with its 200cc rivals, Hero has smartly managed to pitch the Xtreme as a 200cc bike for the cost of a 160 and it has succeeded by some margin. In its latest avatar, the Suzuki Gixxer SF is a little over Rs 11,000 expensive than the Hero Xtreme 200S. And given by what we have experienced after our first ride aboard the new Hero, we were mighty impressed. Will the Suzuki manage to impress us even more? We will be riding the bike tomorrow and will soon bring you our first impressions of the 2019 Gixxer SF.
