The engine is likely to be BS6-compliant
- There are subtle visual cosmetic changes apart from the BS6-compliant engine.
- Expect the bike to command a considerable premium over the previous-generation FI variant.
- The bike is likely to be launched in early 2020.
According to our sources, the 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V will be equipped with an LED headlamp, with the lower part of the headlamp used for low beam, while the upper part will be used for high beam. That being said, the headlamp shape could look similar to the outgoing model.
We expect TVS to update it with Bluetooth connectivity, just like the unit on the TVS NTorq 125. Consequently, expect additional features like navigation assist, caller ID and last parked location to be present as well.
The 2020 iteration will get a BS6-compliant engine. At present, the Apache RTR 200 4V comes in both fuel injected and carburetted variants but expect TVS to continue only with fuel injection once the norms kick in from April 2020 onwards. It remains to be seen whether the BS6-compliant engine will witness a bump in power. To give you a perspective, the current-gen 197.75cc fuel injected motor produces 21PS of power and 18.1Nm of torque, working alongside a 5-speed transmission with slipper clutch. We expect TVS to offer a 6-speed gearbox in the 2020 iteration, which should considerably enhance the bike’s highway potential.

Apart from the engine, expect the underpinnings to remain the same as its predecessor. The 2020 iteration is likely to be launched early next year. We expect TVS to offer the 2020 version with new graphics and colour schemes. As for the pricing, only the carb variant is currently available with ABS. This motorcycle commands a premium of about 13,600 over the non-ABS carb variant. If the 2020 model comes only with fuel injection, expect TVS to equip the bike with ABS as well since it’s mandatory. This coupled with the new changes should result in a hike of about Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 over the current non-ABS FI variant, which costs Rs 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
