However, no changes have been made to the bike’s mechanicals

Yamaha has launched the 2021 Yamaha WR 155R in Indonesia. The motorcycle comes in two new colours: Yamaha Blue and Yamaha Black. Both colour variants are priced at IDR 37,725,000 (on-road, Jakarta), which is around Rs 2 lakh.

The blue colour variant features a ‘WR 155R’ logo on the fuel tank with VVA stickers on the tail panel. The front fender and headlight cowl are also painted in blue. This doesn't look as sporty as the corresponding Thai-spec version, which comes with white highlights on the headlight cowl and on the tail panel with multiple stickers on the tank extensions. The Yamaha Black, on the other hand, looks fairly sporty, thanks to the white, red and blue livery on the fuel tank with the ‘WR’ logo and side panels with the ‘Yamaha’ logo. It also gets a sticker on the front fender, and the rest of the body panels are finished in black.

There have been no changes to the motorcycle’s mechanicals. It continues to source power from the 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology, churning out 16.72PS at 10,000rpm and 14.3 Nm at 6500rpm. The semi-double-cradle frame is linked to a long-travel front fork and rear monoshock, with 21-inch front and 18-inch rear-spoke wheels. The wheels are wrapped in block pattern tyres for optimum performance in the trails. Braking is via a 240mm front and a 220mm rear petal disc. There’s no ABS in the Indonesian-spec model.

Yamaha could bring the bike to India like it did with the new Aerox 155. It makes sense, considering it shares its powerplant with the existing Yamaha R15. However, the Japanese bike maker may not bring it any time soon. Moreover, the tall 880mm seat and puny 8.1-litre fuel tank may make it impractical for the Indian market.

Hopefully, Yamaha will bring an India-specific adventure bike next year. If it manages to localise the components, a Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag seems fair for the motorcycle to make a lasting impact in our market.
