A closer look at Yamaha’s latest supersport motorcycle
In a bid to bridge the gap between the R3 and the flagship YZF R1, Yamaha launched the 2021 R7 yesterday. It is the Japanese brand’s best bet against the Aprilia RS 660 and Honda CBR650R. So, let’s see what the 2021 Yamaha R7 has to offer through a series of detailed images:
Carrying the R-series DNA, the Yamaha R7 sports an aggressive front fascia. It gets a projector headlamp placed right above the nose, with LED DRLs on both sides.
The tail section, which looks just as sharp, gets the LED treatment too.
The 2021 Yamaha R7 is powered by a 689cc parallel-twin motor (borrowed from the MT-07). It belts out 73.4PS at 8,750rpm and 67Nm at 6,500rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It gets a slipper clutch and an optional upshift-only quickshifter.
On the feature front, the bike has been equipped with an LCD with LED illumination. Apart from that, the R7 is devoid of any electronic nannies.

Suspension duties on the 2021 Yamaha R7 are handled by a 41mm fully adjustable USD fork from KYB and a linked monoshock.
Braking hardware comprises 298mm dual discs at the front and a 245mm disc at the rear. The only safety net on the bike is dual-channel ABS.
The Yamaha R7 gets a 12.8-litre fuel tank and tips the weight scale at 188kg. For reference, its naked counterpart, the MT-07, weighs 184kg.
The bike has a seat height of 835mm high and a ground clearance of 135mm.
It rolls on 17-inch alloys wrapped in a 120/70 front and a 180/55 rear tyre.
Yamaha has priced the 2021 R7 at USD 9,000 (approximately Rs 6.87 lakh) and is quite unlikely to launch it in India. We can only hope the brand rethinks its strategy and enters the mid-capacity motorcycle segment in the country. If that does happen, the Yamaha R7 could be priced around Rs 10 lakh to 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
