The Aprilia RS 457 will now have some real competition!
Kawasaki took to social media to tease the Kawasaki Ninja 500, making it clear that the new supersport will be coming to India. The bike was first unveiled at EICMA 2024 and has been launched in the US and EU markets. With this new offering, the Japanese manufacturer plans on replacing the Kawasaki Ninja 400 currently on sale in India.
The Kawasaki Ninja 500 comes with a typical supersport design and has the aggressive look that we have come to associate with Kawasaki bikes. The interesting thing about the design is that Kawasaki has borrowed a lot of design elements from its higher-capacity offerings such as the Ninja ZX-6R and Ninja ZX-10R. Hence, we see elements such as the split headlight setup with twin spoilers and a small windscreen at front, combined with a sharp fairing with floating body work in the middle.
The Ninja 500 is powered by a 451cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, the same as the recently launched Eliminator 500. The engine produces 45.4PS at 9000rpm and 42.6Nm at 6000rpm, and gets a 6-speed gearbox.
Coming to the underpinnings, the bike is built on a trellis frame and is suspended on a telescopic fork with 120mm wheel travel and a monoshock with 130mm wheel travel. The bike rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, wrapped in a 110-section front and 150-section rear tubeless tyre. Braking duties are handled by a 310mm disc up front and a 240mm disc at the rear with dual-channel ABS
The Kawasaki Ninja 500 comes with a 5-inch full-colour TFT display which offers smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki’s Rideology app. The bike also has keyless ignition via the Kawasaki Intelligent Proximity Activation Start System. It also comes with a slip-and-assist clutch.
The Kawasaki Ninja 500 is expected to most likely be launched in the coming weeks at an ex-showroom price of around Rs 5.4 lakh to 5.6 lakh. Once launched, the Ninja 500 will primarily go up against the Aprilia RS 457. Other competitors include the Yamaha R3 and KTM RC 390.
