What bikes from Europe’s gala event could make it to our shores?
Milan has played host to some of the world’s biggest two-wheeler launches and unveils, thanks to the EICMA motor show. And although not every single vehicle showcased at EICMA does make it down to India, there are always a handful which do turn up. At the end of the 2018 edition, we had the likes of the Hero XPulse 200T and some big Beemers riding down. So what do you expect to see arriving in 2020?
KTM 390 Adventure
The hype around this motorcycle is incredible as for long have Indian enthusiasts been tempted and teased by KTM. And while it is not going to be as thoroughbred an off-roader as we had earlier thought of, the 390 Adventure is surely going to be one of the highlights at the KTM stand at EICMA. Powered by the same 373cc single-cylinder motor as the 390 Duke, the 390 Adventure is sure to offer orange enthusiasts a different dimension to the madness. What’s more is that the 390 Adventure could be showcased in India as early as the end of the year.
CFMoto 250SR
CFMoto might be a new brand in the Indian context but the Chinese bike maker has been showcasing big products at EICMA over the years. Last year, it brought the 650GT and the 400GT, the former being launched in the country earlier this year. For 2019, CFMoto will be showcasing its quarter-litre supersport -- the 250SR -- which is based on the 250NK. Recently, spy shots of the bike had surfaced online which led us to believe that the 250SR was ready for EICMA. However, when it comes to India, it will arrive as the 300SR, derived from the 300NK.
Aprilia RS660
Pitched as a global product, expect a few RS660s on our streets next year. Aprilia sent out a teaser image of the bike on its social media accounts and we are glad to report that nothing much has changed from the concept bike showcased last year. This supertwin could be pumping out north of a 100PS from its parallel-twin engine. The Aprilia Active Aerodynamics package could debut on this motorcycle which would make it the first production bike in the world to get active aerodynamics.
Triumph Tiger 800
After the Street Triple RS, Triumph’s Tiger 800 might very well be its next triple-cylinder engine motorcycle to be updated to the Euro 5/BS6 emission norms. A test mule was spotted earlier this year which was seen with a heavily revised styling. In fact, the new Tiger 800 looks sleeker and more enduro-ish than adventure. Nevertheless, Triumph will be bringing the updated Tiger 800 to India as it is one of the most popular motorcycles from the British brand.
Suzuki V-Strom 1000
After a dull outing at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Suzuki is ready to bring forth its large capacity adventure tourer, the V-Strom 1000. Several teaser videos have already been put up on Youtube with the most recent one showcasing the updated motorcycle’s styling as well as a few features that the motorcycle could be packing, like a full-digital info cluster. The colour scheme seen on the bike in the teaser video is reminiscent of the old DR-Big. Suzuki has enjoyed success in recent times with the V-Strom 650XT in India. And while the old V-Strom 1000 did not enjoy much success, it is likely that Suzuki might just bring this litre-class tourer back to India.
