A man posing himself as a potential customer of a Harley Davidson Street 750 motorcycle turned out to be a thief as he rode away with the test ride motorcycle, and never returned, from a Harley Davidson showroom in Hyderabad.
The man introduced himself as Syed Tahir and a 25 years old software professional as he showed interest in purchasing the motorcycle in question. Showroom staff and officials say that the guy appeared like a genuine customer and it’s natural that they agreed to give him the test ride when he requested for one. He even produced his license (including his contact details) when the showroom staff requested for it as a standard procedure before giving a test ride.
Tahir, the man in question, was accompanied by a guy from the showroom staff on another motorcycle and both started on the route decided prior to the test ride. However, the man soon changed his direction and sped away to another route. While the showroom guy tried to follow, not suspecting the theft though, he couldn’t keep up due to traffic and returned to the showroom. After waiting for around an hour and the “customer” not been back, it was natural to conclude that the motorcycle has been stolen.
The showroom staff, since then, has shared the CCTV camera footage with the police and has reported a case of theft. The case has been registered under sections 380 (theft in a building) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC. A man hunt has been launched to nab the offender.
On another note, this could become a serious problem for both showroom officials and the people who indeed visit a showroom as potential and genuine customers or simply visit a showroom out of the honest interest in motorcycles. Hopefully, the culprit will be caught soon enough, along with the stolen motorcycle, and brought to justice.
