The upcoming Pulsar will be powered by the Dominar 400’s engine

It was only last week that Bajaj revealed its plans for upcoming Pulsar bikes and now it is reported that the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 400 could be powered by the Bajaj Dominar 400’s engine.

According to those reports, the upcoming 400cc Pulsar is reportedly set to bear the moniker NS400 and will be powered by the 373.3cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine found in the Bajaj Dominar 400. It produces 40PS and 35Nm in the Dominar 400, so expect it to make the same output figures in the streetfighter as well. Staying true to its nameplate, the upcoming Pulsar NS400 will be built on the Pulsar NS200's perimeter chassis, albeit reinforced to handle the bigger, more powerful engine. As such, we expect the bike to have great handling capabilities. The Pulsar NS200 currently weighs 158kg kerb, so expect the 400cc version to be reasonably heavier. That said, it’s unlikely to be as heavy as the Dominar 400, which tips the scales at 193kg.

As the bike will be called the NS400, we expect it to get similar aggressive and sharp design elements like the Pulsar NS200. But we hope that the new bike gets a revised styling as the NS200’s design has been around for quite some time now and is in need of a refresh. If the 400cc Pulsar gets revised styling, then that design language can be expected to trickle down to the smaller capacity NS models in Bajaj’s lineup when those models get updated in the next few years. And since the upcoming Pulsar will be the flagship Pulsar upon its launch, it is expected to get Bluetooth connectivity and other modern features.

The upcoming Bajaj Pulsar 400 is expected to be launched in 2024 and will likely be considerably more affordable than the Dominar 400’s Rs 2,29,781 (ex-showroom Delhi) price tag.

Even though Bajaj developed the engine with KTM’s help, it has only been used to power the Dominar so far. Expanding the engine’s usage to Bajaj’s Pulsar lineup will help the brand eke out more business from an already-developed engine. Moreover, using the new 399cc engine (from the new 390 Duke) in the Pulsars would drive the price up significantly. So using the Dominar’s motor would effectively help keep costs in check.
