Everything from humble everyday scooters to fire-breathing sportbikes

As we enter the month of September, we can see that the Indian motorcycling industry is well and truly out of its COVID-induced slumber. After a couple of uneventful months early in the lockdown, we’ve seen a stream of exciting new launches, and the month of August took things even further. Here are all the new bikes and scooters that arrived over the past month:

Honda Hornet 2.0

One of the most important and eagerly anticipated launches of the month was that of the Honda Hornet 2.0. This handsome new motorcycle marks Honda’s debut in the 180-200cc segment in India, and the Hornet certainly has the goods to get the job done. Kawasaki Versys 650, Vulcan S BS6

Kawasaki has been steadily working away over the last few months to bring its 650cc parallel-twin range up to date and in line with the latest emission norms. After getting more popular models like the Z650 and Ninja 650 out of the way earlier, the brand spent August focusing on the more niche models in the lineup. It kicked things off with the Versys 650 BS6 adventure tourer early on, followed by the launch of the Vulcan S BS6 cruiser towards the end of the month.

TVS Scooters

TVS Jupiter ZX Disc Variant Launched

Though there were no new models from TVS this month, a couple of very important scooters did get interesting new updates. The popular Jupiter 110cc scooter finally received the option of a front disc brake for the first time in the BS6 era, something which neither of the Honda 110cc scooters are offering right now. The exciting NTorq 125cc scooter was endowed with a snazzy new yellow colour scheme for its Race Edition, which was previously available only in red.

Bajaj Platina 100 Disc

Now Bajaj Platina 100 Also Gets A Disc Variant
Another humble two-wheeler to receive a front disc brake this month was the trusty Bajaj Platina 100. It may be the most affordable offering in the Platina lineup but it’s still a rugged and tough little bike, which has now become an even more attractive proposition thanks to the more competent braking hardware on offer. It is priced at Rs 60,698, making it pricier than the drum brake version by around Rs 2,200, which is a pretty small premium to pay.

Triumph Street Triple R

Street Triple buyers in India have had slim pickings over the last few months, with only the hardcore RS version to choose from, priced at a pretty hefty Rs 11.33 lakh. August saw Triumph roll out a more affordable variant in the form of the Street Triple R priced at Rs 8.84 lakh. This is the first time we have received this variant of the 765 in India. Even though the price has been massively slashed, performance and hardware aren’t all that far off from the RS, making the R a pretty good value-for-money proposition.

Ducati Panigale V2

Ducati Panigale V2 Launching Today

Going a little further up the food chain, Italian icon Ducati also rolled out a new bike this month. This was a landmark occasion because it marked the brand’s first BS6-compliant bike in India in the form of the exciting new Panigale V2. Despite adhering to the latest emission norms, it produces more power and torque than its BS4 predecessor, the 959 Panigale, and it’s also packed with a comprehensive IMU-assisted electronics suite. Unfortunately, all this has come at quite a cost, and the price of the V2 was a bit of a shocker! To find out exactly how much it costs, head here.
