Apollo launches new tyres for motorcycles

Apollo Tyres has announced its entry into the two-wheeler tyre segment (today) with the Acti series. Researched and Developed at the tyre manufacturer's facility in Chennai, the new series of tyres will cater to nearly 85 percent of the replacement market for motorcycle and scooter tyres in the country. The Acti series is available in three tread patterns, namely the ActiGrip, ActiZip and ActiSteer.
Commenting on the development, Onkar S Kanwar, Chairman, Apollo Tyres Ltd said, “This is a milestone for Apollo Tyres as the entry into the two-wheeler segment makes the company a full-range player. The presence in the two-wheeler segment will help the company cement its leadership position in India. The Apollo Acti series will provide the best value proposition to our customers along with an enjoyable driving experience.”
According to the company, the two-wheeler category is growing at a rate of 8.5 percent and the segment has huge potential for tyre manufacturers. This led to Apollo Tyres foray into the two-wheeler tyre segment. (At the press conference today, they showcased the following products)
Motorcycle rear tyres -
The rear tyre for a motorcycle is being offered in three patterns – ActiGrip R1, R2 designed in a block pattern and ActiZip R3 in a directional pattern. The block tyre pattern is designed for on and off-road riding conditions. The directional pattern tyre is designed for highway cruising on dry and wet surfaces. The block tyre will be available in 3.00 – 17, 3.00 – 18 and 2.75 – 18 and the directional in 100/90 – 18TL, 100/90 (-)17TL and 2.75 – 18 sizes.
Motorcycle front tyres -
Like the rear tyres, the front will also be available in three patterns, the ActiSteer F1 in a straight rib pattern, ActiZip F2 and F3 in directional patterns. The rib pattern tyre will be available in 2.75 – 18 side and the directional tyre in 2.75 – 17 and 2.75 – 18.
Scooter tyres -
Apollo has introduced new tyres for the front and the rear for scooters too. Namely the actiZIP S1 and S2 and two block patterns ActiGrip S3 and S4. Apollo also claims that these new tyres will boost fuel efficiency of motorcycles. The block pattern tyre will be available in 90/100 – 10 and the directional tyre will be available in 90/90 – 12TL and 90/100 – 10TL sizes.
