Aprilia Launches The Shiver 900 And Dorsoduro 900 At Rs 11.99 And 12.50 Lakh (Ex-Pune)
After launching its flagship RSV4 RF and Tuono V4 1100 RF, Aprilia has pulled the wraps off two other, slightly smaller models for India. The Aprilia Shiver 900 is a naked street bike and is priced at Rs 11.99 lakh. The Dorsudoro is a supermotard and currently will retail at Rs 12.5 lakh. These are introductory prices (ex-Pune) and post 30th June 2017 will go up to Rs 13.32 lakh and Rs 13.83 lakh respectively.
Both the Shiver and Dorsoduro were updated for 2017 and in the process got an engine capacity hike from 750cc to 900cc. The resultant power hike was 95.2PS @ 8750rpm and 90Nm of torque @ 6500rpm. Both bikes get the same power output and identical gear ratios.
As part of its 2017 updates, the Shiver 900 gets new headlamps, tank extensions, front fender, side and tail panels. It also gets a new 4.3-inch TFT screen which allows for wireless smartphone connectivity. Electronics include an updated ride-by-wire system and traction control.
While the frames of both bikes remain similar to the previous 750cc models, they get new 41mm upside-down fully adjustable Kayaba forks that claim to be half a kilo lighter and offer 120mm of front wheel travel. There is a fully adjustable side-mounted monoshock damper at the rear that offers up to 130mm of wheel travel. The bike has a seat height of 810mm and a 15-litre fuel tank.
The bike also gets new three-spoke wheels that are lighter by 0.9kg and 1.3kg, leading to lower unsprung mass and better handling. For braking, the Shiver 900 gets dual 320mm discs with radial callipers at the front and a single 240mm disc at the rear. It also gets ABS and metal braided lines for reduced flex and more precise feel.
The Shiver 900 will compete against the Yamaha MT-09, Kawasaki Z900 and Ducati Monster 821.
While the Dorsudoro 900 gets features similar to the Shiver 900, including ride-by-wire, it also gets three riding modes- Rain, Touring and Sport. In addition, it gets a three-stage traction control system and switchable ABS.
On the aesthetics front, the new bike gets a red frame with new graphics, blacked-out swingarm and new wheels. The frame remains the same as the Dorsoduro 750 and while the new suspension is similar to the Shiver 900, it has a longer suspension travel of 160mm on both wheels. Brakes are the same units used on the Shiver 900. Seat height is a tall 870mm while fuel tank capacity is 12 litres for which Aprilia claims a range less than 200 kilometres.
With these two bikes, Aprilia's India line-up has grown to five bikes - SR 150, Shiver 900, Dorsoduro 900, Tuono V4 1100 and RSV4.
These bikes will be available through Motoplex showrooms in Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Cochin and Chennai. Deliveries for the new bikes will begin from the second half of July 2017.
