The Aprilia SR 160 has been given its first comprehensive update since its 2018 launch

Aprilia has recently updated its SR160 in the Indian market. The performance-oriented scooter has received some minor mechanical but some major feature updates. Here's a detailed review of the 2021 Aprilia SR160 via images.

Starting with the design, the new Aprilia SR160 has become leaner and sharper than before thanks to its revised bodywork. The fascia has also witnessed a significant change as the scooter now gets a new apron-mounted LED headlight and halogen turn indicators on the handlebar cowl, which also features new faux air vents.

Moving on to the side, you'll notice the scooter still has a lot of graphics. While the seat is a single-piece unit, it has got a crease which makes it look like a split-type setup.

The rear end is again lean and sharp. However, now it features an 'X' shaped LED taillight and the grab rail has also become chunkier than before.

The new Aprilia SR160 has seen a major update on the features front as it now gets a fully digital instrument cluster (borrowed from the SXR 160) that displays basic information such as fuel efficiency, top speed, time, a trip meter and ambient temperature. Meanwhile, customers will have to pay an extra Rs 2,000 for Bluetooth connectivity which displays only call and SMS alerts and misses out on turn-by-turn navigation.

Other notable features include an underseat USB charging port, an LED boot light, single-channel ABS, a contoured leather seat, and retractable footrests.

Powering the new Aprilia SR160 is the same 160cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that churns out 11.01PS and 11.6Nm. This engine features a strong mid-range while there's still scope for improvement low down in the rev range, as well as on the top end.

This simply means that the SR160 isn’t very quick off the line and feels lively only between about 30-80kmph, after which it again takes its own sweet time to cross triple-digit speeds.

On the NVH front, the refinement of the scooter has improved. However, some vibrations can still be felt on the footboard above 80kmph.

The ride of the scooter is taken care of by a telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. While the ride of the scooter is stiff, it has managed to impress us as it's not as stiff as its predecessors or its main rival, the Yamaha Aerox 155.

The braking duty on the SR160 is handled by a front disc and rear drum setup, with single-channel ABS. While it delivers adequate stopping power, we still would have preferred a better brake bite. Besides, the rear does step out under hard braking.

The new SR160 rolls on 14-inch alloys wrapped in 120/70 Ceat tyres that offer great grip around the corners.

Moving on to the price and variants. The Aprilia SR160 is available in three variants: Standard, Carbon and Race that are priced at Rs 1.18 lakh, Rs 1.21 lakh and Rs 1.28 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. To know which variant among the three is the most value for money, check out our detailed story.
