Last month, Aprilia announced that it will soon start the production of the highly anticipated SXR 160. Now, our sources confirm the maxi-scooter will be launched later this month while pre-bookings will start as early as this week.
The SXR 160, which was unveiled at Auto Expo 2020, was due for a mid-2020 launch before COVID-19 played spoilsport. This will be the first maxi-style scooter from the brand in the country.
In typical maxi-scooter fashion, the SXR has a prominent front-end inspired by the bigger scooters, wide bars, a large footboard, and a long, comfortable seat. Aprilia has equipped the SXR 160 with premium features such as LED illumination, LCD console and charging socket. The new scooter will be powered by the same 160cc single-cylinder engine seen on the SR 160, producing 11PS and 11.2Nm. However, given the additional bulk, we expect the SXR’s engine to come in a slightly different state of tune.
While there is no official word on the pricing yet, our sources say the SXR 160 could be priced around Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom). Though the scooter doesn’t have any direct rival, it could be a tempting proposition for buyers interested in the Suzuki Burgman Street.
