The smaller sibling is Rs 11,000 more affordable than the SXR160
- It borrows the bodywork and foundations from the SXR160.
- The 124.45cc mill has been lifted from the Storm 125 but will get a different CVT tune.
- Scooters are expected to arrive at dealerships soon.
Aprilia has launched the SXR125 at Rs 1.16 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This comes after a year of Aprilia confirming at Auto Expo 2020 that a launch was on the cards. The new price does hurt, especially when you consider that its chief rival, the Suzuki Burgman Street 125, retails at Rs 82,700 (ex-showroom Delhi).
The base for the SXR125 remains the same as its elder sibling, the SXR160. An underbone frame propped up with a chunky telescopic fork and monoshock combined with large body panels make it look big and wide. But sadly, the scooter’s proportions seem to have gone askew.

From afar, the front gives off this large maxi feel while the rear appears slim. And considering its dimensions are the same as the SXR160, the SXR125 will also feel rather small and not as imposing as a maxi-scooter (or even a maxi-styled scooter) should.
Powering this scooter is the same 124.45cc single-cylinder air-cooled three-valve mill from the Storm 125. It produces the same 9.52PS at 7600rpm and 9.2Nm at 6250rpm. But just like we experienced with the SXR160, the CVT might have been revised to handle the extra weight. So, the SXR125 might not be as peppy as the Storm but will be able to sustain slightly higher speeds better.
Bookings opened nearly a month ago, and the company has said that the scooter should start reaching dealerships shortly. Considering more and more cities are going under localised lockdowns, it could be difficult to get your SXR soon. We hope the chaos subsides at the earliest. Till then, please take care, stay at home, and get vaccinated.
