The 2017 edition MotoGP spec track-only bike is the marque’s most technologically advanced bike on sale
Aprilia’s ‘Factory Works’ project was launched last year and offered bike enthusiasts the rare opportunity to buy a brand new Aprilia Factory Racing bike built to WSBK and Superstock specs. In essence, you could buy a WSBK race bike and maintain it with the support of Aprilia Racing division. This concept caught the fancy of a lot of wealthy bike enthusiasts who always wanted a track-spec racing bike from Aprilia and also those who wanted to race as a privateer.
For 2014, the lineup gets bigger. There are four Aprilia Factory Works bikes on offer - two super stock, one WSBK and a MotoGP replica. Now the MotoGP bike will garner more interest thanks to a more world-wide fan following than the other series.
The RSV4 FW GP is similar to the bike raced in the 2015 MotoGP championship. The bike’s V-4 motor features an increased bore of 81mm and is hand built by Aprilia Racing technicians. It features pneumatic valves, full-Akrapovic race exhaust and other MotoGP tech that pushes power to more than 250PS! There is a dry clutch on offer with back torque limiter and a removable cassette gearbox. To keep the weight as light as possible, there is generous use of aluminium and carbon fiber. Racing components include Ohlins Racing FGR300 fully-adjustable front forks. You can even adjust the wheelbase as the triple clamps is adjustable for offset as is the Aluminum Under-arm swing arm with which gets a 50mm range of adjustment. There is a fully-adjustable Ohlins TTX GP monoshock damper at the rear. Braking is courtesy dual 336mm dual stainless steel discs upfront with Brembo Racing 30-34 monoblock radial calipers and four Sintered pads.
The bikes run a complex racing harness and comes with a sata logging unit. The electronics on the bike allow you to change virtually every available drivetrain setting. For example, you can set the intensity of engine braking for multiple speeds.
The bike can be ordered from Aprilia Racing for 1,60,000 euros (approx Rs1,13,26,000 excluding duties and shipping). The bike will take 60 days to deliver once you order by paying 20 percent of the bike. Of course the bike is not road legal and being a racing product, is not covered under warranty but on the plus side Aprilia will personalise the bike in any colour scheme you fancy.
You also get the royal treatment. You are invited to the Aprilia Racing headquarters in Noale to select the ideal configuration. During preparation of the bike, you get “live” images of the outfitting progress. After receiving the bike, you also get a phone number and address if you need any information or face an issue. The bike is hand delivered by Aprilia Racing engineers and if you wish, you can pick the bike up from Noale itself. You also get Aprilia Racing branded track leathers and a paddock pass for an entire MotoGP Grand Prix weekend plus an invitation to participate in an Aprilia track day, where Aprilia Racing engineers will adjust the bike's settings based on your riding preference and provide technical tips to make full use of the RSV4 FW-GP's potential. The Factory Works programme, included in the price of each model, includes technical training to best adapt the bike to the rider and circuit, as well as a test session on the track with the Aprilia Racing test team. Think of it as the FXX program on two wheels.
