Everything that makes the Ather 450X the most desirable EV on sale at the moment
Ather Energy has been taking giant strides in the electric two-wheeler segment in India. In the three years since the first product debuted, we have seen the startup constantly update and refine its lineup. In fact, the Ather 450X has been the benchmark for e-scooters, and here are five essential facts that make it so:
Design
The Ather 450X has a futuristic design that’s clean and minimalistic, making it appealing to a broader audience. Like you’d expect from a premium scooter, it features LED illumination, including LED DRLs that double up as indicators. The seat is comfortable and long enough for two, and the scooter has a decent 22-litre underseat storage.

Features
The Ather 450X comes with a long list of features, starting with the massive 7-inch colour touchscreen display. It pairs with your phone, has navigation capabilities, receives Over-The-Air (OTA) updates for improved functionality, and even adds features like music and call control, which are part of the latest update.
The Ather 450X also gets four riding modes: Eco, Rain, Sport, and Warp, along with an additional Reverse mode. How cool is that?
Performance
While we love the bunch of features offered, it wouldn’t be half the fun if the Ather 450X didn’t pack an equally exciting performance. The mid-mounted PMSM motor is capable of producing a peak output of 6kW and 27Nm. It is not just the quickest e-scooter we have tested, but we also pitted it against the Suzuki Access 125 to know if it fares better than the ICE scooter.
The motor is paired with a 2.9kWh battery pack with a range of 91.4km (tested by us). It takes a claimed 5 hours and 45 minutes for a full charge.
Charging Infrastructure
One of the biggest hurdles in the faster adoption of EVs is the accompanying range anxiety. To mitigate this issue, Ather Energy has been consistently setting up charging stations across cities before commencing sales. In fact, the startup will be setting up as many as 500 fast chargers in the next six months.
The Ather Grid fast-charging network is free for all Ather owners till December 2021. More recently, the startup even announced that it will share its proprietary charging connector with other manufacturers to form an extensive, unified network.
Price
Lately, the government has been pushing for mass adoption of electric mobility. After making revisions to the FAME-II subsidy, state governments are now stepping up to offer even more incentives to buyers. For example, the Ather 450X carries benefits of Rs 68,000 in Maharashtra! That’s Rs 43,500 from the FAME-II subsidy + Rs 24,000 from the state subsidy.
Now, doesn’t the Ather 450X feel all the more tempting?
