If the new Avenger Street 160 doesn’t cut it for you, then here are some other alternatives that you can choose from the same price bracket
Bajaj has finally launched the Avenger Street 160 in India at a tempting price of Rs 82,253 (ex-showroom Delhi). At this price, it is the most affordable cruiser in the country. In fact, it is Rs 6,000 less expensive than the Avenger 180. However, if you are not into cruiser motorcycles, then there are other exciting alternatives available in the same price bracket as well. Here’s a list of motorcycles that you could consider instead of the Bajaj Avenger Street 160.
1: Suzuki Gixxer:
The Suzuki Gixxer is one of the most potent motorcycles out there. Tipping the scale at 136kg (kerb), it is quite light on its feet and manoeuvring it in the city is an easy task as well. The 155cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor produces 14.8PS at 8000rpm and 14Nm of max torque at 6000rpm, and is paired to a 5-speed transmission. The motor offers a good amount of mid-range power, which is ideal for city conditions. Suspension duties are taken care of by telescopic suspension at the front and the 7-step adjustable rear monoshock and they can soak up small bumps with no fuss. At Rs 88,941 (ex-showroom Delhi), it is Rs 6,700 more expensive than the Avenger Street 160. However, if you want a sporty naked motorcycle, then the Suzuki Gixxer will do just fine.
2: Hero Xtreme 200R:
The Xtreme 200R is the least expensive 200cc motorcycle in the country right now. And it is not only a great commuter motorcycle, but it fared pretty well at the BIC as well. The 200cc air-cooled engine churns out 18.4PS at 8000rpm and 17.1Nm of torque at 6,500rpm, which is 3.4PS and 3.6Nm more than the Avenger Street 160. The 200cc engine has a strong low-to-mid range power band, which makes it perfect for city rides. At 148kg, it is 2kg lighter than the Avenger Street 160. It gets a 276mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear and ABS is available as standard. So, if you are looking for a powerful motorcycle, then you could go for the Hero Xtreme 200R.
3: Honda X-Blade:
If you want an aggressively-styled commuter motorcycle, then the Honda X-Blade is the one for you. Priced at Rs 88,202 (ex-showroom Delhi), the X-Blade comes loaded with features and you also get Honda’s reliability. It features LED lights at the front and rear, and you also get a digital instrument cluster. The 163cc motor makes 14PS of power and 14Nm of torque, which is almost at par with the Avenger Street 160’s power output. The peppy engine’s power delivery is not only good at lower revs but also feels pretty solid on the highway as well. The Honda X-Blade commands a premium of around Rs 6,000 over the Bajaj Avenger Street 160.
4: Bajaj Pulsar 150:
The Pulsar 150 is the oldest name in this list. Since its launch in 2001, it has been one of the most popular Pulsar models out there. Even though it is more than a decade old, the Pulsar 150 can still keep up with its modern competitors. In terms of power, the 149cc engine puts out 14PS of power 13.4Nm of torque, which is just 1PS and 0.1Nm less than the Avenger Street 160! The engine offers a solid low-end grunt and is ideal for stop-and-go traffic situations. Braking hardware consists of a 240mm disc at the front and a 130mm drum at the rear, and single-channel ABS if offered as standard. At Rs 84,461 (ex-showroom Delhi), it's Rs 2,200 more expensive than the Avenger Street 160. So, if you are a Pulsar aficionado, then the good ol’ Pulsar 150 is the one for you.
5: Aprilia SR 150:
If you are not into motorcycles but still prefer a sporty set of wheels, then the Aprilia SR 150 is the one for you. Not only does it look great, but it offers an involving riding experience despite being a scooter. The 155cc single-cylinder engine puts out 10.5PS of power and 11.4Nm of torque. It might be the least powerful option in this list, but it is not a slowpoke; it can go from 0 to 60kmph in 7.21s. The SR 150 comes with Bluetooth connectivity and it also gets a single-channel ABS as standard. However, at Rs 84,026 (ex-showroom Delhi), it is around Rs 1,800 more expensive than the Bajaj Avenger Street 160. It might be a tad more expensive, but it will be worth it.
