Bajaj has released a promotional image of the upcoming ABS-equipped Avenger Street 180
- Like the 220 Avenger twins, the Avenger Street 180 is expected to get single-channel ABS.
- Pricing is expected to go up by around Rs 6,000.
- Other than the inclusion of ABS, no other mechanical or cosmetic changes are expected.
- The Avenger Street 180 ABS is expected to launch before the April 1 2019 ABS/CBS deadline.
It’s no news that from 1 April 2019 all new bikes below 125cc have to be equipped with combined braking system and those above that have to have ABS as standard fitment. To that effect, Bajaj has already launched bikes like the Discover 110 with CBS (Combined Braking System) and the Pulsar 220F with ABS. It had also quietly launched the larger Avenger 220 Street and 220 Cruise with ABS. And now, the bikemaker has released an official promotional poster of the entry-level Avenger 180 Street ABS.

Like the larger Avenger Street 220 and Avenger Cruise 220, the Avenger Street 180 is expected to come with a single-channel ABS unit to keep costs in check. Currently, the non-ABS Avenger Street 180 comes with a 260mm front disc and 130mm rear drum. The same setup is expected to be carried over with ABS on the front wheel.
The Avenger Street 180 is Bajaj’s entry-level cruiser that carries the Street 220’s bodywork, but gets a smaller 180cc air-cooled motor borrowed from the Pulsar 180. It makes 15.5PS and 13.7Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Being an entry-level model, it misses out on the all-digital instrument console of the larger Avengers and instead gets an analogue setup. However, It does get an LED DRL inside its oval headlamp like the Avenger Street 220.
Like the Avenger 220 ABS, that costs Rs 6,800 more than its non-ABS counterparts, expect the Avenger 180 to carry a similar premium. With the current Avenger 180 priced at Rs 86,611 (ex-showroom Pune), we could be looking at a price of around Rs 93,000 (ex-showroom Pune) for the Avenger 180 ABS. Some dealerships are even accepting bookings for an amount of around Rs 5,000 for the bike. With the ABS deadline looming large, we can expect an early launch.
With the addition of ABS, the Bajaj Avenger Street 180 would compete with the Suzuki Intruder 150 ABS (Rs 1.02 lakh ex-showroom, Pune). Watch this space for more info.
