If the new-gen Bajaj Chetak e-scooter is to taste the same sort of success as its erstwhile petrol-powered namesake, Bajaj can’t afford to sell it only in Pune and Bengaluru. It knows this, which is why it has just taken to Instagram to announce its intention to launch the e-scooter in Chennai and Hyderabad soon.
How many buyers it will be able to find in these metros is another story altogether, because after its recent price hikes, the Chetak now starts from a whopping Rs 1.42 lakh (ex-showroom). Nevertheless, if the price doesn’t put you off, Bajaj is now accepting registrations from hopeful buyers in the two new cities. Those who register will be eligible to book the scooter as and when bookings are opened next.

As far as the Chetak itself is concerned, it continues to be entirely unchanged, still powered by a 4kW motor from Bosch that gives it a top speed of 60kph. It offers a claimed range of 85km in Sport mode and 95km in Eco mode, while charging time stands at 5 hours with a conventional 5-amp socket.
