Bajaj’s service centers are also operational
- Bajaj has restarted Chetak production in Pune.
- Bookings have resumed; token amount set at Rs 2,000.
- The Chetak electric scooter was launched in January 2020.
Bajaj has resumed operations at its Chakan facility in Pune after a temporary shutdown due to the COVID-19 lockdown. This means that the manufacturer has restarted the production of its all-electric scooter, the Chetak, too. However, expect deliveries to get delayed a bit. Before the lockdown, Bajaj was expected to start delivering the Chetak by September to customers who had booked the scooter in February.

In other news, the homegrown two-wheeler manufacturer has also restarted its service centres across India. But that was never really a problem for Chetak customers as the scooter is low on maintenance, which means you don’t need to frequent the service centre. Just in case you're wondering, the service interval for the Bajaj Chetak is set at 12,000km or one year (whichever is earlier). The first service is carried out at 1,000km via select KTM dealerships. It benefits from an overall warranty of 3 years or 50,000km (whichever comes first) and is inclusive of the lithium-ion battery.
Powering the Chetak is a BLDC motor from Bosch that makes 3.8kW of continuous power, 4.08kW of peak power, and 16Nm of torque. Its non-removable IP67-rated 60.3Ah lithium-ion battery offers a claimed range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. It even gets a reverse gear. It takes upto five hours for a full charge, and an hour to reach 25 per cent using a conventional household socket. Bajaj says an 80 per cent charge can be achieved in 3.5 hours.
Bajaj launched the Chetak at a starting price of Rs 1 lakh. It's available in two variants: Urbane and Premium, with the latter retailing at Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
