From the name, expected price and other details, here’s everything we have been able to learn about the Bajaj CNG bike
Update: The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG Bike has been launched in India at Rs 95,000 (ex-showroom)
The Bajaj CNG bike is set to be launched today, and over the past couple of days we have seen many spy shots, teasers and even leaked information surface online. Here’s a brief overview of everything we know about the bike so far.
Bajaj CNG Bike Name
Freedom 125 is the name of the Bajaj CNG bike and this name was trademarked by the brand earlier this year.
The trademark was filed with the description “two wheelers, specifically electric two wheelers and two wheelers operating on compressed natural gas”. The trademark filing doesn't mention the cubic capacity but Bajaj always adds that bit to their bike names so the CNG bike being called Freedom 125 is only natural. The name was revealed recently and the brand had also teased the bike as well.
Bajaj CNG Bike Design
When looking at the design, the teasers have revealed that Freedom 125 will feature a simple commuter design, complemented by boxy body panels. The bike will come with a LED headlight and turn indicators. It features a long single-piece seat, underneath which the CNG tank is housed. The tail section is slim and comes with a sleek looking pillion grabrail.
It will be offered in two variants, a rugged variant with braced handlebars, knuckle guards and fork covers and a standard variant.
Bajaj CNG Bike Engine
The Freedom 125 will be powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder CNG/petrol-powered engine. The engine’s performance is expected to be similar to that of a 100cc-110cc petrol powered bike. This reduction in performance is because CNG isn’t as energy dense as petrol.
The Bajaj CNG bike will be more efficient than a regular petrol powered bike, and although mileage figures aren’t available, we think it could give around 70km per kg.
Bajaj CNG Bike Underpinnings
The bike’s suspension setup will comprise of a telescopic fork and monoshock. The bike rolls on what appears to be 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, with braking duties handled by drum brakes at both ends as standard, but a front disc brake could be optional.
Bajaj CNG Bike Features
Features wise, the CNG Bike will havea digital instrument console, it will also feature a blue button to switch between CNG and petrol. The console features tell-tale lights including a low CNG alert.
Bajaj CNG Bike Expected Price & Rivals
Bajaj has a history of pricing their offerings very competitively, and the recent Bajaj Pulsar NZ400Z is a good example of this. We think the CNG bike could also follow a similar path and have a price tag around the Rs 80,000 (ex-showroom) mark.
The CNG bike will go against other petrol powered bikes in the 100-110cc segment such as the Honda Shine 100, Hero Splendor Plus, TVS Radeon and Bajaj Platina 110.
