When launched, Dominar will be the most powerful bike from Bajaj
The Dominar 400 has been one of the the most anticipated bikes of 2016 and the wait is finally over. The 373cc bike will be launched by Bajaj Auto tomorrow in Delhi. Once on sale, it will be the most powerful bike offered by Bajaj till date. The name is derived from the Spanish langauge which literally means ‘to excel or to exceed in power’. It was initially christened as the CS 400 (Cruiser Sports) when it was first showcased in the 2012 Auto Expo. The Dominar aims to find middle ground between the cruiser and sportsbike segment as it is intended to deliver ergonomics of a cruiser and the sporty dynamics of a naked bike.
The 375cc engine is derived from the KTM Duke 390 but will be tuned to deliver more of a evenly balanced performance with better low end torque delivery suited for cruising rather than the frantic top end response on Duke. The bike will be offered with a full LED headlamp unit along with full digital instrumentation, a first in its segment. The bike should get ABS as standard. The bike is designed to look larger with comfortable ergonomics.
The cruiser sport segment under Rs two lakhs has just the Mahindra Mojo and Bajaj will be the second bike here with the Dominar 400. The bike will sit on a perimeter unit frame unlike the trellis one on Duke 390 and will employ beefy telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock unit at the rear. It is expected be priced around Rs 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom).
