India's second largest bike manufacturer is looking to tri-alliance with Austria's KTM which is known for its off road two stroke racing bikes and Japan based Kawasaki which is known as for its designing and manufacturing. The reason behind this tri-alliance is to creating this three way alliance is to combine the R&D and global distribution strengths of the three companies. Bajaj Auto's MD Rajiv Bajaj told that KTM motors wants to learn about cost structure from Kawasaki and Bajaj Auto wants to extant the partnership between Bajaj and Kawasaki too.
He also added that no immediate equity participation likely by Bajaj in Kawasaki or vice versa. Kawasaki bikes are known as its balanced performance, high quality, reliability and excellent fit and finish motorcycles, Kawasaki produced world class bikes such Ninja, Kawasaki Z series, Vulcan and the company wants to develop high performance bikes. While KTM has produced class leading bikes like Duke, Supermoto and LC4 series. Presently Bajaj Auto produces Boxer, Platina, Pulsar, Discover and Avenger the well performing bikes.
Kawasaki motorcycle mostly produces class leading high performance bikes which none of KTM or Bajaj has. KTM mostly deal in class leading off road bikes which none of Bajaj or Kawasaki has. On the other hand Bajaj produces low displacement street bikes which are better than of Kawasaki and KTM. So, all the three players majorly operate in three different segments. And All three bike makers has not competited to each other, on behalf of their performance and the range.
