This EV plant will produce the Chetak and the Husqvarna Vektorr e-scooters
Bajaj Auto has confirmed a new dedicated facility for EV manufacturing and exports at Akurdi, Pune. It’s the same site that was home to the original ‘Humara Bajaj’ Chetak. Now, it will serve as a standalone factory for Bajaj’s upcoming electric vehicles.
The company says that the first vehicle – we reckon it will be the Chetak – is expected to roll out from the new plant by June 2022.
Bajaj has invested Rs 300 crore in the new facility and aims to manufacture 5 lakh units annually.

The news comes around the time as the Husqvarna Vektorr electric-scooter being spotted testing along with a bunch of Bajaj Chetaks. So, we can expect the Husky e-scooter and the Bajaj Chetak EV to be manufactured in the new factory. Even a KTM e-scooter could be made at the same facility going forward.
With EVs gaining gradual but steady popularity, the Akurdi plant should help Bajaj upscale Chetak’s production volume as well as bring the Vektorr to India soon after its foreign debut.
