Bajaj Pulsar, the speed-star that has commanded country’s performance segment bikes for about a decade, has now added another feather to its hat. The aggregate sales of Pulsar range of bikes have reached 5 million mark which is an extraordinary achievement for Bajaj Auto and Pulsar enthusiasts. Bike critics have criticized Bajaj Pulsar the most, but it is also true that there are only a few performance bikes across the globe the sales of which have reached 5 million mark. In Indian automotive industry, few brands like Hero Splendor, Hero Passion and Bajaj Discover have crossed this hefty milestone.
Honda Activa is the two-wheeler which is expected to cross 5 million mark as it has already crossed 2 million sales mark in the year 2007. It is the only performance segment machine which has crossed 5 million mark in the Indian two-wheeler segment. Bajaj Pulsar first reached a million sale records in the year 2006 and since then it has never looked back. In the next 3 years, it crossed 3 million mark in the year 2009 which itself is a record. In the year 2010, it crossed 4 million mark. Due to the huge competition and low market condition, Pulsar took some time to achieve this hefty value of 5 million.
Because of the instability in petrol prices since past few years, the performance segment in India has contracted from 18% to 15% of total motorcycle sales. However, Bajaj Auto India is all set to launch a next-generation Pulsar in India which is expected to further improve the sales of Pulsar brand in India. It is also expected that Pulsar brand will grow at a fast pace with crossing a million plus sales mark in fiscal year 2012-2013. Presently Bajaj Auto exported Pulsar range of bikes to more than 30 nations. Pulsar range is available from 135 to 220 cc and home-grown auto major is aiming to introduce bigger version of Pulsar in India by next year. Pulsar is expected to cross 10 million mark in the coming few years.
