Bajaj Auto sure has plans to be “Distinctly Ahead” of other brands of bikes in India. It now wants to launch itself in Brazil and some other ASEAN countries. The company is relying on its partnership with Kawasaki, the Japanese two wheeler giant. News is that both the companies have gladly agreed to the proposal of this expansion. Agreement is that Kawasaki would help Bajaj Auto to market and sale the whole range of Bajaj bikes in Philippines and Indonesia, this includes what Bajaj calls executive, Platina and Discover, and the ever premium Pulsars too. Since the time Bajaj Auto and Kawasaki had joined hands back in 2004, together the two companies have owned the market; yes, winning 45 per cent of the market can be called owning in. What Bajaj Auto have recently realized is that there is a huge scope in countries that are not tagged under “developed” and “developing.” They realize that though the market might be rather small in such countries, but these small markets could prove to be quite profitable to them.

Supporting this, Ravi Bajaj, the Managing Director, Bajaj Auto, has to say, “Between the developed and developing markets, there are these smaller markets where our bikes are extremely relevant. We believe Bajaj and Kawasaki have reached a right (business) model in the Philippines.” Quite similar is when we see the Philippines story. Bajaj operates there as PT Bajaj Indonesia, and has 20% share of the market to its name. PT Bajaj Indonesia assembles and advertises and markets its bikes there. However, the wish is to simulate something similar in Indonesia too. Bajaj prefers to reveal the same models as it introduced in Philippines. Indonesia might see these next year in 2013. The bikes will be designed and developed in India and then exported to Indonesia where Kawasaki would remodel it as per the local requirements, as is being done in Philippines.
