The India-based manufacturer, which is known for its Pulsar and Avenger ranges, is all set to launch a new motorcycle, ‘V’. It is built with the metal remains of INS Vikrant which was India’s first and most celebrated aircraft carrier. It was decommissioned and finally sent to be dismantled in 2014. The bike is expected to get the same 150cc engine as the one present in Discover 150F . One area of concern is that the metal from INS Vikrant is limited, but the company has enough material to manufacture the model for around 2 years. After that, Bajaj might look forward to building it with metal from a different source and sell it with a lesser price tag.
Speaking about the ‘V’ bike, Mr. Eric Vas, President (Motorcycle Business), Bajaj Auto Ltd, said, “For decades, the INS Vikrant has been celebrated as the pride of our country and is synonymous with Indian military capabilities and power projection. We are proud that Bajaj Auto is playing a role in keeping the legacy of India’s first aircraft carrier alive.” He added, “For the warship, the name Vikrant was taken from the Sanskrit word Vikr?nta meaning "stepping beyond", i.e. "courageous" or "bold". These qualities also form the essence of our new brand. We are confident that the bike will carry the spirit and legacy of INS Vikrant forward and become one of the most path-breaking motorcycles, that customers will witness this year.”
Bajaj is one of the few two-wheeler companies that are sitting out in this edition of Auto Expo. Other than Bajaj, big brands like Harley-Davidson and Royal Enfield are also missing the event. To compensate for the loss of not attending Expo, both Bajaj and Royal Enfield are unveiling their new motorcycles just before the event, on February 1 and 2 respectively.
