We were first to announce that DSK Benelli is going to launch its most affordable motorcycle- TNT 25 in India by the end of this year. Now, it has been officially confirmed that launch of the motorcycle will be on 18th December. Considering prices of the other products from the company, the new motorcycle is expected to carry a price tag of around Rs. 2 lac which will position it against the offerings like Mahindra Mojo 300 and KTM 390 Duke. So, here we are with a quick comparison of these three naked sport machines.
Design and Appearance:
The Italian Benelli TNT 25 has been assembled on a semi-trellis type frame with a very basic yet aggressive styling. Some style elements of the bike are quite similar to its rival- KTM Duke especially its bold headlight. It features a digital-analog console, masculine fuel tank, split seat, sporty muffler, 10-spoke alloys, red painted steel frame and much more that completes its streetfighter appearance.
Built on a diamond type frame, Mahindra Mojo 300 looks very distinctive from any other motorcycle in the market. From the front, it looks a little weird with twin-pod type headlights and the bulky bikini fairing, but this unconventional look also makes it wild at the same time. Another highlighted style feature of the bike is Golden Ribs, which are actually members of the frame and compliments the golden painted USD forks and swingarm.
Featuring one of the most convincing designs in the history of motorcycles, KTM 390 Duke uses a space trellis frame. The orange painted frame of the motorcycle also works as a style element of the bike and provides a bare-bone appeal to it. The muscular fuel tank cladding and minimum use of plastic panels on the body gives a raw feel to the machine.
Engine and Performance:
Propelling the Benelli TNT 25 is a 249.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that makes power up to 28.16bhp at 9,800rpm and torque up to 21.61Nm at 8,000rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox and comes coupled with an Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system.
Mahindra Mojo 300 sports a 294.7cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled mill which comes mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. Using an EFI system, it produces up to 26.8bhp of power at 8,000rpm and delivers torque up to 30Nm at 5,500rpm.
The best-in-class KTM 390 Duke comes with the highest capacity single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine among the three with a displacement of 373.2cc. The high revving motor is coupled with an EFI system and churns out a maximum power of 43bhp at 9,500rpm and a peak torque of 35Nm at 7,250rpm. The 6-speed constant mesh gearbox of the bike also gets a slipper clutch for smooth downshift at any speed.
Chassis and Equipment:
Benelli TNT 25 runs on 17” alloy wheels with 140/60 section tyre at the rear and 110/70 section tyre up front. It has a dual disc brake system comprising of 280mm and 240mm discs on the front and the rear wheel respectively. A pair of 41mm Upside-Down (USD) telescopic forks support the front while the rear gets an adjustable mono-shock.
The 17” alloys of Mahindra Mojo 300 gets 110/70 and 150/60 section tyres from Pirelli Diablo Rosso II at the front and the rear respectively. Along with the super grippy tyres, it gets the biggest 320mm disc brake on the front wheel in its segment along with a 240mm disc on the rear wheel. The bike also features 43mm USD forks at the front and a more advanced high-pressure gas charged mono-shock with internal floating position.
Coming from the house of hardcore off-road machine manufacturer, KTM 390 Duke gets a WP suspension set-up comprising of rear mono-shock and 43mm USD forks up front. The light weight 17” alloy wheels of the bike come covered with sticky Metzeler Sportec M5 tyres, 110/70 section front and 150/60 section rear. The braking system gets a 300mm disc brake at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear, and the set-up comes with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) assistance as a standard feature.
Prices and Verdict:
The upcoming Benelli TNT 25 is expected to be priced around Rs. 2 lac, which seems impressive for a 250cc naked sport motorcycle. However, Mahindra is offering Mojo 300 at just Rs. 1.63 lac that gives you almost similar, even some better features. On the other hand, KTM 390 Duke comes with an almost similar price tag as that of the TNT 25. However, it offers many extra features like better tyres, ABS and slipper clutch along with much better performance. So, we believe that DSK Benelli has to launch their player at much lower price than expected otherwise, KTM is the clear winner in this battle.
