By now, almost everyone in the world has heard about the disaster that hit Kerala, which is said to be the worst floods in the last two decades. Water levels in the region increased to dangerous levels, leaving many homeless and over 300 people losing their lives. While relief funds poured in from all over the world, the Indian Army and volunteers have been at the forefront trying to help out and save as many people as they can.

Floods don’t just affect people but also their vehicles, which are an equally important part of their livelihood. For this, manufacturers like TVS, Honda, Bajaj, Suzuki, Hero and Yamaha have stepped in to do their part, by offering service camps for flood-affected two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

Their objective is to rehabilitate all these affected vehicles to normal performance through servicing and maintenance. Vehicles will be thoroughly inspected for any damage and water ingression, together with replacing parts if need be. All manufacturers are offering free oil changes and waiving off labour charges. Honda has gone the extra mile and dispatched Mobile Service Vans (MSVs) to service customers’ vehicles in the remotest of areas. Moreover, any customer wanting to exchange their Honda two-wheeler for a new one will receive an exchange bonus of Rs 2,000. Bajaj, on the other hand, will waive the cost of oil change and minor parts such as filters and gaskets.

Similarly, Suzuki will replace the oil filter free of charge along with an oil change -- and in case of major damage, representatives from the firm will assist customers with the insurance claim formalities. Suzuki will also offer special discount on parts just in case the insurance doesn’t cover the damaged vehicle.

While TVS was the first company to lend a helping hand to the flood-affected district of Kerala, it’s good to see other manufacturers doing their part as well. Companies like TVS, Hero and Suzuki have also contributed Rs 1 Crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Additionally, Hero will provide relief materials consisting of food items, tents, medicines, water filters, blankets, hygiene kits, kitchen sets etc. to the relief camps in the state. The firm will also collaborate with authorities to repair schools in the state and organise school uniforms and bags for students.

We hope Kerala and its people recover from disaster as soon as possible and life, as we know it, goes back to its usual self.

Here are the official statements from the manufacturers.
