Following the unveil of the G 310 R last year, BMW is now working on an adventure-tourer using the same platform, and it might be called the G 310 GS.

BMW G 310 R

Manufacturers these days develop more than one product on a single platform, it not only saves cost, but also makes the assembly process faster and easier. So when BMW took the wraps off its entry-level performance offering, the G 310 R at EICMA last year, it was clear that they would eventually be working on another product based on the same 313cc engine platform. BMW recently confirmed that they might be working on an adventure-tourer based on the G 310 R platform.

BMW Motorrad UK, Director, Phil Horton confirmed, “New models aside, the line-up isn’t as comprehensive as it needs to be. But there are plenty more bikes to come, including, hopefully in 2017, a G 310 R GS-style derivative. That’s quite an interesting proposition in itself.”

While there isn’t a confirmation from BMW as yet, the bike is expected to be called the G 310 GS. This new offering will sport the same same engine as the G 310 R, however it might be re-tuned to suit its adventure touring DNA. The G 310 R comes with a 313cc liquid-cooled single cylinder engine that pumps out 35PS of power and 28Nm of torque.

BMW F 700 GS

While BMW hasn’t revealed any details with regards to its design, it is safe to assume that it will get some of its design cues from the the larger F 700 GS or the R 1200 GS. BMW is already one of the global leaders in the adventure segment and this new entrant will further help them to gain a stronger foothold in the category. Like the BMW G 310 R, this new adventure bike could also be engineered in Germany and produced in India thanks to the TVS-BMW alliance.
