BMW S 1000XR to be Launched at 2016 Auto Expo

BMW is planning its official entry in the Indian two-wheeler market with the launch of an adventure tourer, S 1000XR. The bike will be launched at the 2016 Auto Expo which will take place in Delhi next month. The new offering by the company is based on S 1000R and houses an in-line-four block that produces a maximum power of 158.8bhp and a peak torque of 112Nm. The bike features Automatic Stability Control (ASC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC). Moreover, its comes with two riding modes viz. Rain and Road. It will give a tough competition to Ducati Multistrada and is expected to be priced around Rs. 27 lac (ex-showroom). Currently, the German bike maker’s Indian lineup consists of S 1000, K 1300, R 1200, R nineT and K 1300.
BMW Motorrad is in collaboration with TVS for the past two years and BMW G 310R is the first motorcycle that is jointly developed at TVS facility in India. The G 310R houses a 313cc, single cylinder liquid-cooled mill that produces 34bhp of power and a peak torque of 28Nm. The bike is expected to go on sale at the start of next fiscal year and will share the service network with upcoming TVS Apache RTR 200. Apache was recently spied testing in Indonesia and is expected to be launched in two trims with the premium one getting Pirelli tyres. The company has plans to put the Apache RTR 200 against KTM 200 Duke.
