Matter claims a range of up to 150km with its electric bike

Ahmedabad-based Matter has unveiled India’s first liquid-cooled electric motorcycle ahead of its launch in 2023. But that’s not the only thing that makes this e-bike cool. Here’s a lowdown on this interesting product:

4-speed Gearbox On An Electric Bike!

The Matter Drive 1.0 is one of the most interesting bits about this bike. Its mid-mounted liquid-cooled 10.5kW motor is claimed to churn 520Nm at the wheel and is paired with Matter’s Hyperdrive 4-speed gearbox with variable torque output and throttle response.

The company has even designed the motor to look like an ICE engine with a transparent cover on the right side where traditionally the clutch would sit. Through the see-through cover, you can see the motor moving.

This motor is backed by a 5kWh liquid-cooled battery pack with a claimed range of 125km - 150km depending on the variant. And though the company has not revealed the charging time, it comes with the standard 5 Amp plug.

Packed To The Gills With Features

Keyless ignition, auto-cancelling indicators, 7-inch LCD touchscreen console with integrated navigation… Matter has plonked all the features in its first electric bike. Heck, with its comprehensive connectivity features, the bike won’t just auto-reply to calls when you are riding, but also notify your contacts with its accident detection feature.

Thanks to its dedicated mobile app, you can check vehicle details like charge status, location and even show ride stats and analysis. Furthermore, the system is backed by a 9-axis IMU.

Futuristic Design

The Matter electric bike has a futuristic design but doesn’t look outlandish. It features a bi-functional LED projector headlight with LED DRL. The tail light is a compact unit flanked by sleek sequential LED indicators. At the front, the indicators are integrated into the tank shrouds, which add to the premium appeal.

The hardware on the Matter electric bike is pretty decent too. A telescopic fork and dual gas-charged shocks take care of suspension duties while disc brakes at both ends backed by the safety net of dual-channel ABS drop the anchor on this electric bike.

Overall, the Matter electric bike looks pretty close to production and we should see the EV hit the showrooms next year. The company already has 50 dealer partners and are looking to expand to 200 by the  end of this year. And though the price is still under wraps, we expect it to be priced at around Rs 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom) and will go up against the likes of the Tork Kratos. Now, this could also be the perfect EV rival to the premium sub Rs 2 lakh ICE segment, won’t it?
