The updated iteration gets an inverted fork, bluetooth connectivity and more!

  • The updated Yamaha MT-15 is priced at Rs 13,000 over the older version.
  • Makes 0.1PS less and 0.2Nm more than before.
  • Features an aluminium swingarm too.

Yamaha has launched the 2022 iteration of its popular naked, the Yamaha MT-15. The updated bike, called the Yamaha MT-15 Version 2.0, is priced at Rs 1,59,900, making it Rs 13,000 costlier than its predecessor, which retails at Rs 1,46,900 (both ex-showroom Delhi).

The Yamaha MT-15 V2.0 features a 37mm inverted fork finished in gold, just like how Yamaha offered it on the R15 V4. Additionally, it also gets an aluminium swingarm, and a slightly tweaked engine producing 0.1PS less (18.4PS at 10,000rpm) and 0.2Nm more (14.1Nm at 7,500rpm). The powerplant works with the same 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch, as before.

Additionally, Yamaha has also equipped the updated MT-15 with a Bluetooth-compatible instrument cluster that shows call, e-mail and SMS alerts, maintenance reminders, last parked location, fuel consumption, and malfunction alerts on the Yamaha Y-Connect app. Sadly, there’s no turn-by-turn navigation.

The bike is available in two new colours Cyan Storm, and Racing Blue, adding to the existing Ice Fluo-Vermillion and Metallic Black, which also get revised graphics. And at 139kg kerb, the updated naked is 1kg more than before. The bike also misses out on a dual-channel ABS, and there’s no traction control or quickshifter either, presumably to keep the costs in check.

The bike will be available at all authorised Yamaha dealerships, and the closest rivals (at around the same price) include the KTM 125 Duke and the Bajaj Pulsar NS200. Summing up, while the update is a much-needed change, we wish Yamaha had added navigation, traction control and quick shifter (at least as an option) and dual-channel ABS, which would’ve made the naked a much more wholesome bike than before.
