The BS6-compliant Classic 350 is around Rs 12,000 more expensive than the older model

  • Apart from two new paint options, the Classic 350 hasn’t received any cosmetic updates.
  • It is still powered by a 346cc single-cylinder engine. However, it now gets fuel injection.
  • Other motorcycles from RE’s lineup will be upgraded to BS6 norms in a phased manner.

Royal Enfield has launched the BS6-compliant Classic 350 in India at Rs 1.65 lakh (ex-showroom), making it around Rs 12,000 more expensive than the older variant. Except for the addition of two new paint options (matte black and chrome), there are no cosmetic changes whatsoever. The BS6-compliant Classic 350 now gets a 3-year warranty along with 3-year RSA (roadside assistance) as standard. Unofficial bookings for the BS6 Classic 350 commenced a few days ago for a token amount of Rs 10,000.

Royal Enfield hasn’t revealed the power and torque figures of the BS6-compliant 346cc motor, but in the older model, this motor produced 20PS and 28Nm. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed gearbox. Apart from minor tweaks to the engine and exhaust, there are no major mechanical changes on the bike. The frame, suspension setup and the braking hardware have been carried over as is from the previous iteration.

In terms of rivals, the Classic 350 goes up against the Jawa and Benelli Imperiale, neither of which have been updated to meet the new emission norms. The Chennai-based bike maker has also announced that it will launch the rest of its BS6 models in a phased manner by March 31. Apart from updating its current model lineup, Royal Enfield could also launch two new motorcycles called Sherpa and Hunter.
