A closer look at Yamaha’s first scooter in the 125cc segment
Yamaha has finally entered the 125cc scooter segment with the launch of the new Fascino 125 FI in India. The scooter starts from Rs 66,430 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the STD Drum variant. Here’s a closer look at the scooter in detailed images:
Despite the overhaul in the design language, it remains distinctly recognisable as a Fascino, and that’s a good thing as prospective customers love familiarity.
While we expected Yamaha to equip the scooter with an LED headlamp, it gets a halogen unit instead. The chrome bezel exudes premiumness.
The analogue instrument cluster looks rather simple. We’d have liked if the scooter came with a small digital inset for the fuel gauge, tripmeter and odometer readings.
The chrome trims on the apron highlight the scooter’s curvy design rather well. The indicators, along with the tail lamp, are of bulb type.
The scooter comes with the start-stop feature, which is a first from the Japanese brand. This should help save fuel on traffic-ridden roads. It also gets a silent start feature, thanks to the ACG starter.
The scooter comes with a seat opener integrated into the key slot, which should make it convenient to open the seat.
The Fascino 125 FI features a wider seat than the 110cc version, which should ensure better comfort for both the rider and the pillion.
Interestingly, the underseat storage capacity has remained unchanged, at 21 litres. There’s neither a USB charging port nor boot light.
The scooter rides on a 12-inch alloy wheel up front with a disc brake as an option. It gets a combined braking system as standard to comply with the safety norms.
The 125cc fuel-injected BS6-compliant engine produces 8.2PS and 9.7Nm, which is 1PS and 1.6Nm more than the 110cc scooter. It offers a claimed mileage of 58kmpl.
The scooter comes with a conventionally placed fuel filler. We feel Yamaha could've used the space at the tail section to incorporate an external fuel filler.
